Our Team

SecurityPension.com is a small, independent publication. Most of what you read on this site is written, edited, and updated by one person — Felix Levine, the founder and editor — with research support from a small group of contributors. We believe a small team that takes ownership of every article produces more accurate work than a content mill that ships volume.

This page tells you who is behind the words on the site, how to reach us, and the editorial principles we work to.

Felix Levine

Founder & Editor

Felix is a researcher and writer who started SecurityPension.com after watching too many people he knew make irreversible Social Security and pension decisions based on outdated rules of thumb, well-meaning but uninformed advice from family members, or guesswork. The problem he kept seeing was not that the official rules were unfair — it was that almost no one understood them clearly enough to make a good choice.

His goal with the site is simple: take the rules people actually need to know, document them in plain English, and walk through what the numbers really look like in real situations. Every guide is meant to be the kind of explanation he would give a friend who walked into the kitchen and asked, “Should I claim now or wait?” or “Will my pension survive if my old company goes under?”

Areas of Expertise

  • Social Security retirement, spousal, survivor, and disability benefits
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) eligibility, application, and interaction with other benefits
  • Defined-benefit pensions, including FERS, CSRS, military, and private-sector plans
  • 401(k), 403(b), Traditional and Roth IRA strategy, including contributions, conversions, and required minimum distributions
  • Medicare enrollment and coordination with employer coverage
  • Federal tax treatment of retirement income and Social Security benefits

Editorial Approach

Felix writes from primary sources first — the Social Security Administration’s program operations manual, IRS publications, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation’s annual reports, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rule documents — and only secondarily from popular-press summaries. When a number or a rule appears in an article, it is sourced from an agency publication or a federal regulation, not from another blog. Articles are reviewed before publication and re-reviewed when annual cost-of-living, contribution-limit, and threshold updates are released.

Felix is not a Social Security claimants’ representative, an attorney, a CFP®, or a CPA. SecurityPension.com is an independent publication, not a financial advisory practice, and nothing on the site is personalized advice. Readers facing complex situations are encouraged to consult a qualified professional or their local Social Security office.

Other Writing

Felix also publishes runningcardio.com, a personal site about cardiovascular fitness, weekly intensity-minute tracking, and longevity research aimed at adults in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. Same approach as this site: primary sources, real weekly numbers, plain English. The connection isn’t accidental — cardiovascular health is one of the larger variables behind retirement-planning decisions like when to claim Social Security, how much to budget for healthcare, and whether long-term care is likely.

How We Work

SecurityPension.com follows a documented editorial process. Every article goes through topic selection, primary-source research, drafting, fact-checking against the cited sources, and editing before it is published. Articles touching on annually-updated figures are scheduled for review every year. When we discover an error, we correct it promptly and note the change. The full process is described in our Editorial Policy.

Independence

We do not sell financial products. We do not file benefit claims on behalf of readers. We do not accept referral fees from financial advisors, insurance carriers, or claim-processing services. The site is supported by independent display advertising (including Google AdSense), which does not influence our editorial decisions. See our Editorial Policy and Advertising Disclosure for details.

Contributors and Acknowledgments

From time to time we work with guest contributors and outside researchers on specific topics. When an article is written by a guest, the byline reflects that person, and any relevant credentials or affiliations are disclosed at the top of the piece. Articles without an explicit guest byline are written by Felix.
